Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Kung Fu Panda Thumbs up for Jack Black in character as the unlikely hero with big dreams. Dustin Hoffman was great as the sensei/master dude (I forgot his name). This movie was cliche in all the good ways. There was a bit of a lull towards the middle of the movie, but easily forgiven. Fight scenes were fun. Like many movies, I wish the trailers didn’t give away so much.

I saw this this morning. The cast is very good. The animation is terrific. I thought it dragged, too, but more toward the end. I guess extended action sequences bore me a little, because I just wanted the film to end. I had been thinking, just before seeing this, that the earlier Dreamworks films were better than the recent stuff, but this makes me take it back. Very entertaining, and you can tell the writers love their kung fu movies. The backgrounds are unforgettable.

The inclusion of James Hong as Jack Black’s dad is a wonderful touch, not to mention Jackie Chan as Monkey.
