2016 Honolulu Charter Amendments

A few friends asked me to share my thoughts on the city charter amendments, so for each question on the ballot, I shared the reasons for support and opposition, put together by the League of Women Voters based on testimony at the commission hearings, the recommended votes of the state GOP, the recommended votes of a local advocate known as Bike Mom for the Hawaii Advocates for Consumer Rights, and my own votes with a few explanations.

    Mitchell,

This is really a great effort, and I commend you for it. I only wish I had this earlier. I’m pretty tired right now, so I probably won’t be able to really read this. But if I have enough time tomorrow morning, I’ll try to use this as a guide. Anyway, thanks for doing this!

I didn’t vote until Friday, and when I Instagrammed a photo Thursday of my doing my homework on the amendments, some friends asked if I had a CliffsNotes for them. So yeah, I didn’t even think of it until Thursday, and it took me until Sunday during the Raiders game to finish putting it together. Edited it Monday morning.

If I can remember to do it next time, I will do it a lot earlier.

Larri and I sat at the dining table and filled out our ballot together, asking each other questions, and also referring to the guide you put together. It occurred to me that it might be cool to invite people over and have a “ballot party,” where we could discuss the various topics.
